Student ServicesJob SummaryThis is a temporary, 6 months, part-Time
(0.5 FTE), benefited position.Project Rebound recruits and supports
formerly incarcerated students to attend and graduate from SJSU.
The Counselor will assist the new Project Rebound program by
supporting current and future Project Rebound students in their
transition to a college-going culture. The Counselor will assist
the Program Director in conveying to him/her the Counselor's
knowledge of available community resources and agencies that will
benefit Project Rebound students, particularly those recently
leaving custody within the College of Social Sciences.Key
ResponsibilitiesSpeak with incoming and current formerly
incarcerated students to help guide them in college readiness and
overcoming obstacles to a successful educational
experienceFacilitate connecting Project Rebound students to needed
SJSU and community resourcesProvide support and information to
prospective students who are in custody to help them, upon release,
take steps to succeed as SJSU studentsSpeak at community
presentations (including presentations to those in custody) and
community events regarding the SJSU Project Rebound programAttend
community events to explain the availability of educational
assistance to formerly incarcerated peopleInform Program Director
regarding local resources that formerly incarcerated students may
need (e.g., emergency housing, food, public assistance,
transportation, medical care) and introduce the Program Director to
local agency personnelHelp train Project Rebound volunteers
regarding working with justice-involved peopleKnowledge, Skills &
AbilitiesKnowledge of issues affecting justice-involved
individuals, including low-income communities and/or communities of
colorExcellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication
skills and comfort in public speaking to diverse audiencesAbility
to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, community
members, and others involved in facilitating the success of
formerly incarcerated studentsHigh level of professionalism and
attention to detail requiredAbility to maintain confidential,
sensitive informationProficient in Microsoft applications (Word,

Valid California Driver's License and a good DMV recordAbility to

QualificationsEquivalent to graduation from a four-year college or
university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business
administration or a job related field. Additional specialized
experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully
applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted
for the required education on a year for year basis.Two years of
professional experience in one of the student services program
areas or in a related field. A master's degree in a job-related
field may be substituted for one year of professional
experience.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's DegreeExperience with
a college environmentMinimum 2 years of experience assisting people
