The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $63,500- $112,900. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $71,000 - $81,000.

About the Job


The Foundational Science Course Coordinator will support the development of future physicians by working closely with faculty to ensure students have a positive learning experience and master the foundational science content covered in the first 18 months of the medical education (UCSF Bridges) Curriculum. Coordinators support 2-3 courses per year, collaborating with faculty on a weekly basis to plan and implement courses. Responsibilities include overseeing course project plans, organizing faculty planning meetings and follow-up, managing student learning materials, schedules, and attendance via our online platforms, maintaining databases, and attending all course sessions to provide support. Coordinators must be well organized and demonstrate a strong orientation to detail. The coordinator role also requires strong relationship-building skills and effective oral and written communication, as coordinators frequently interact with students and faculty. Coordinators will also work closely with fellow coordinators on the Foundational Science team to share best practices, support each other's work, and engage in professional development.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with program managers and/or faculty to meet the educational needs of program learners through collaborative development and implementation of programmatic activities, which may include program competencies, curriculum, and exams. Working with the Curriculum Lead and faculty, the incumbent manages the day-to-day operations of the block courses. Examples include completion, coordination, and delivery of course materials, room reservations, course content uploaded to the curriculum management system, and communications with the faculty and students.
  • Monitors learner files as well as program documentation and policy to ensure compliance with established and evolving standards. Develops and maintains program processes for documentation to meet regulatory requirements. Examples include oversight of learner data such as assessments, attendance records, and general correspondence with course leadership.
  • Serves as point person for learners, which may include prospective medical education program candidates, current medical education learners, and all other stakeholders. Answers questions and disseminates program information. Resolves ad hoc issues relative to program learners. Advises learners on planning, initiation, and completion of their studies. Manages all communications between course leadership and students. The course coordinator posts information to the learning management system, class and course forums, and the curriculum management system. Advises learners in the case of absence or need for make-up work. Disseminates all course information, including objectives, course materials, location of sessions, and instructor information.
  • Collaborates with program faculty and leadership to develop learner assessment documentation, including assessment tools and assessment strategies / timelines. Implements learner assessment strategies and ensures compliance with deadlines. Analyzes learner performance, curriculum effectiveness, and impact of rotation experience and other educational activities. Provides summary reports of evaluations to program leadership.
  • The course coordinator works directly with course faculty to collect and manage all assessment data. Manages all attendance records and communications with students regarding attendance. Works with the data team to deliver assessment information via the student dashboard.
  • Analyzes the user experience of educational technologies to optimize the teaching and learning environment. Capitalizes on opportunities to more efficiently and effectively administer educational software and platforms. Seeks solutions to enhance the user experience. Uses technology to optimize learning environment and support collection of student and faculty data related to programmatic goals to evaluate intended outcomes.
  • Analyzes a wide range of educational issues and applies project management principles and practices to achieve results in an academic setting. May work with matrixed teams of professionals and key stakeholders to deliver effective results.
  • Incumbent works with many individuals to manage the day-to-day operations of the course. Working with the Curriculum Lead, course faculty (who change from 8-week block to 8-week block), staff team, and the students the incumbent must be facile in their working styles, project management skills, and communications to effectively manage a course.
    Qualifications


    EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
    • Bachelor's degree in related area, such as administration, education, public health and three or more years of related experience; and / or equivalent experience / training. (Required)
    • Master's degree in Education, Public Health or related area preferred. (Preferred)
    • Three years of directly related, progressively responsible experience in educational program management. A master's degree is preferred, but may not substitute for the required years of experience. (Required)CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
      • Thorough knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement processes and systems. Thorough knowledge of the administrative and operational implications in a program.
      • Demonstrated experience and documented excellence in oral and written communications skills; includes active listening and critical thinking.
      • Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with anyone regardless of background. Empathetic and aware of impact on others. Strong problem solving skills to assist learners and resolve issues.
      • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to complete work and meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner, and to manage short and competing deadlines.
      • Experience in developing and implementing processes and systems.
      • Demonstrated experience managing projects with multiple competing priorities.
      • Thorough knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Solid knowledge of health professions education program requirements. Thorough knowledge of health professions education industry. (Preferred)
      • Thorough knowledge of educational software and platforms. Demonstrated ability to analyze and seek solutions to enhance the user experience. (Preferred)
      • Thorough knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program. Skills include statistical analysis of data across databases and systems. (Preferred)
