Under general direction, to supervise, plan, organize, and
coordinate the administration of an assigned public health nursing
program; to ensure that provider and patient follow up services are
maintained; to represent the assigned program to other agencies and
the local community; to oversee and provide nursing, educational,
and health counseling services in connection with the control and
prevention of disease and adverse health conditions; and to do
related work as required.
SUPERVISION EXERCISEDExercises direct supervision over
professional, technical and clerical staff.
Examples of Duties
Supervises, plans, organizes, reviews and participates in the work
of staff responsible for delivering public health nursing services;
prepares and revises the assigned public health nursing program
budget(s); develops and prepares program plans and goals; provides
training and work direction to assigned staff; evaluates the
performance of assigned staff; drafts and revises interagency
agreements as necessary; supervises, plans and conducts a variety
of special program clinics; conducts orientation sessions and
in-service training for new program providers; oversees and
coordinates program services and operations with local providers;
supervises and provides patient follow-up services and counseling
for clients referred for further diagnosis and treatment; oversees
the coordination and planning of a variety of public health
clinics; interviews and takes case histories of patients; may
record data and make necessary referrals; works with assigned and
other applicable staff in planning and coordinating health service
programs; works with community organizations and groups in the
development of health services and educational programs; develops
information and prepares a variety of reports; prepares proposals
and information for securing grant funds and justifying
expenditures; attends meetings and conferences to maintain current
information on public health problems and issues; provides
consultation and medical case management to individuals involved in
programs; acts as liaison between the Public Health Department and
individuals or organizations involved in programs.

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would
provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be
qualifying. ?A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and
abilities would be:
Experience:
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible public health nursing
experience, including at least one (1) year of experience
equivalent to that of a Senior Public Health Nurse with Madera
County.?
Training:Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited
college or university with major course work in nursing or a
related field.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in
the State of California.
Possession of a California State Public Health Nursing
Certificate.?
Possession of, or ability to obtain by date of appointment, an
appropriate, valid driver's license.
Special Requirements:Essential duties require the following
physical skills and work environment:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist,
and lift 25 lbs.; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors,
chemicals, explosive materials, and infectious diseases; ability to
travel to different sites and locations.

Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum

Placement on Eligible List:
The Civil Service Commission may limit the number of qualified
applicants eligible to participate in the examination process. If
two or more candidates have the same total final score on an
examination, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in that
portion of the examination which has the greatest weight. The names
of two or more eligibles having final ratings which are identical
shall be grouped on the eligible list as tie names with equal rank
for certification and appointment purposes.
Candidates who are successful in all phases of the examination
process will be placed on an eligible list, in rank order based on
a calculation of their total score from the examination process.
The eligible list established by this recruitment will be active
for a minimum of six (6) months or one (1) year, unless otherwise
determined by the Director pursuant to section 6-4 (b) and may be
extended for up to an additional year by the Commission.
